The <br /> 2006 HMP identified 16 action items. Five years later, 11 have been completed and the remaining 5 have been <br /> adapted into Action Items in this updated plan. Completed projects include: <br /> • Prioritizing retrofits of bridges and streets <br /> • Storing backup water pipes and creating backup electric service to water pump and sewer lift stations <br /> • Replacing infrastructure with flexible materials to reduce breakage <br /> • Educating residents about 72-hour emergency kits, anchoring water heaters and other mitigation measures <br /> • Developing a program to mitigate steep slopes and reduce landslide risks <br /> • Implementing a standardized ID system for city employees <br /> • Developing a Reverse 911 system to alert residents of danger or the need to evacuate <br /> • Developing a traffic control system for efficient response and evacuation during incidents <br /> y.�+r�=rat' "i/�' 1r1�1 f 1�.l/f4 <br /> HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR 2011 MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE /1 y{=� { � "r .,111 <br /> There are 8 categories of concern, each with multiple action items. <br /> One completely new category was added in this update: Economic Mitigation.When there is a natural disaster, a <br /> separate and equally devastating economic disaster can occur. Historically, businesses have been ill-equipped to <br /> handle these types of post-disaster changes. While not required by FEMA,the Office of Emergency Management <br /> took the first steps in understanding the economic vulnerabilities faced in Everett, as well as planning for the next <br /> steps--by including an Economic Mitigation Plan Annex.This Annex is intended to determine the assets and <br /> vulnerabilities of the Everett economy and suggest items specifically designed to mitigate economic damages that <br /> a disaster could cause. <br /> Neighborhood Networks Economy <br /> • Develop an incentive-based program to encourage • Include "providing support to business" as an <br /> implementation of Map Your Neighborhood programs element within relevant Everett Departments' <br /> in all Everett neighborhoods.
