5 -2 4 <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Harshman grew up in Lake Stevens, a close Everett <br /> neighbor, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding high school <br /> athlete, and; eve rets <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Harshman continued his distinction as an athlete at <br /> Pacific Lutheran University earning 13 letters as well as All-American <br /> honors in basketball 2 years and All-Conference Football honors as a <br /> fullback four times, and; <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Harshman took his talents as a player and built on <br /> them as a coach leading team at Pacific Lutheran University, Washington ej <br /> State University, and the University of Washington from 1946-1985 <br /> amassing a record of 642 victories and making him one of the winningest <br /> coaches of all time, and; <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Harshman displayed his expertise as a coach to the world, serving as a coach of <br /> many all-star teams as well as leading the U.S. team to a Gold Medal in the 1975 Pan American <br /> games, and; <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Harshman, by conducting basketball clinics, shared his talents to young athletes <br /> all over this country as well as other countries of the world, including China, Yugoslavia, Denmark, <br /> Sweden, Iceland, and England, and; <br /> WHEREAS, for his accomplishments and contributions to the game of basketball Mary Harshman <br /> was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985, and; <br /> WHEREAS, as a resident of Snohomish County, all of the accomplishments of Mary Harshman <br /> have reflected positively on all of us here in the City of Everett, making us grateful to have him in <br /> our midst as one of us; <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council and the Mayor of Everett and <br /> all it's citizens proclaim August 20, 1986 Mary Harshman Day in the City of Everett, as our means <br /> of saying thanks for all his accomplishments which by the virtue of him being a local-person we <br /> have so greatly benefited. <br /> Bill Moore, Mayor Carl Gipson, President <br /> Dale Pope, Councilmember <br /> Ed Morrow, Councilmember <br /> Bill Langus, Councilmember <br /> Ray Stephanson, Councilmember <br /> Bob Overstreet, Councilmember <br /> Connie Niva, Councilmember <br />
