RESOLUTION NO. 01 7/5-- <br /> 1 <br /> /5-- <br /> 1 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 WHEREAS, we, as elected representatives of the citizens of Everett, <br /> 4 wish to reaffirm the democratic principles of freedom, equal opportunity, <br /> 5 and equal treatment before the law which are the cornerstones upon which our <br /> 6 nation, state, and city are founded; and <br /> WHEREAS, we feel that all human beings on this earth have an inherent <br /> 8 right to the freedom to pursue life without fear of their human rights being <br /> violated by any government or group; and <br /> 10 WHEREAS, we find the South African policies of apartheid and the <br /> 11 repression of human rights by other like governments repugnant and a threat <br /> 12 to the freedom and well-being of all peoples of the world; and <br /> 13 WHEREAS, the City itself has endeavored to promote equal opportunity <br /> 14 and equal treatment by setting goals and actively pursuing the employment of <br /> 15 qualified members of such protected groups as minorities, women in <br /> 16 non-traditional roles, and handicapped individuals; <br /> 17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that as the elected officials of the <br /> 18 City of Everett, we do condemn discrimination and the repression of human <br /> 19 rights in all its form and do endeavor to manage our own affairs locally, <br /> 20 nationally, and internationally in a way that will protect and promote human <br /> 21 rights and a spirit of understanding for all citizens regardless of race, <br /> 22 sex or national origin. <br /> 23 <br /> 611°1 / <br /> 79 <br /> 24 Councilman Intro ucing esolution <br /> 25 / -�sr� <br /> 26 PASSED and APPROVED this ( day,7 \I„)117____, 1986. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Council Presid t <br /> 29 0693 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
