PURL/C WO/ Drs
ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION
DATE: February 18, 1999
PROJECT: City Hall, City of Everett
SUBJECT: Type of Construction, Section 603.5
ACTION: Acceptance of wood bracing for parapet
FINDINGS:
• With exception, wood is not permitted within the roof/ceiling construction in Type II
buildings. The wood in question is used as a voluntary seismic retrofit to brace a
non-combustible parapet.
• The wood is by definition within the roof/ceiling assembly, but is built over the
ceiling slab and is therefore not part of the fire-resistive attributes of the assembly.
• The wood is covered by the roofing material (Class A)thereby leaving no exposure
threat.
• Te wo d bracing is analogous to the wooden sleepers on the same roof that support
t e ro op mechanical units, which are permitted per code.
Tim Tyler, Building Official
CITY OF EVERETT• 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8800 • Fax(425) 257-8856
