RESOLUTION NO. ,/2) <br /> A RESOLUTION , approving a grant from <br /> the Culture-Convention Center <br /> (Hotel-Motel Tax) Fund No. 138 for the <br /> restoration of the Equator , a ship of <br /> historical significance . <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Everett recognizes the need to attract <br /> visitors and promote tourism within the City ; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett desires to recognize the efforts <br /> made by a restoration committee to restore the ship Equator as <br /> contributing to the promotion of Everett and for creating a positive <br /> community image ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Everett recognizes the restoration <br /> effort as an outstanding means of furthering the goals of promoting <br /> tourism, creating name recognition, and enhancing our image as a <br /> city of quality ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Everett has enacted a two percent room <br /> tax in conformance with R. C.W. 67. 28 known as the Hotel-Motel Tax <br /> and annually collects revenue from this source ; and <br /> WHEREAS , the purpose of the Hotel-Motel Tax is to provide <br /> funding for the cost of operating stadium facilities as well as for <br /> advertising , publicizing , or otherwise distributing information for <br /> the purpose of attracting visitors and encouraging tourist expansion, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF EVERETT THAT: <br /> 1 . -A grant of $50, 000 is hereby appropriated from the <br /> Culture-Convention Center (Hotel-Motel Tax) Fund No. <br /> 138 for the purpose of restoring and displaying the <br /> Equator. <br /> 2 . The grant is to be paid to the restoration committee <br /> of the Equator to provide a means whereby visitors and <br /> tourists may view and learn of the historical <br /> significane of the Equator. <br /> 3.
