RESOLUTION NO.4 ?500 <br /> A RESOLUTION authorizing $20,487.57 for emergency food <br /> and shelter for Everett's needy citizens prior to <br /> December 31, 1984 <br /> 1 <br /> WHEREAS, the Councilmen on the Human Needs Committee were directed <br /> 2 to investigate the availability of food and shelter for Everett's needy through <br /> 3 the end of 1984, and <br /> WHEREAS, they learned from a meeting with the Volunteers of America, <br /> 4 <br /> the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army that emergency needs are rising steadily <br /> 5 while donations are down almost 20%, for a combined shortfall estimated at <br /> 6 $28,500, and <br /> WHEREAS, the City has available $14,087.57 allocated on Human Needs <br /> 7 contracts but not requested during the four years prior to June 30, 1984, as <br /> 8 well as $6,400.00 in the Council Contingency Fund, for a total of $20,487.57, <br /> 9 and <br /> WHEREAS, it is the City's continuing policy to help existing <br /> 10 <br /> agencies meet the emergency needs of its citizens, <br /> 11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVERETT that <br /> 12 immediate payments be made by the City as follows, for the purposes stated: <br /> $12,087.57 to Volunteers of America for food bank operation <br /> 13 <br /> $ 5,000.00 to The Salvation Army for emergency rental assistance <br /> 14 $ 3,400.00 to The Red Cross for emergency shelter, and <br /> 15 Be it further resolved that these funds shall be used to help the <br /> needy by December 31, 1984, and that a detailed accounting of that use (with <br /> 16 copies of supporting documents, i .e. , invoices, etc. ) be made to the City by <br /> 17 January 31, 1985, and <br /> 18 Be it further resolved that these payments be made from Fund 199, <br /> Program 272, in the amount of $14,087.57, and from Fund 001, Program 840, in <br /> 19 the amount of $6,400.00, for a total of $20,487.57. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 <br /> Councilman Int educing Resolution <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Passed and approved this /, ;d._ of November, 1984. <br /> 25 o.e0 il President <br /> 26 <br /> 27 <br /> 28 <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
