Nevertheless , on <br /> 6 the basis of the experience of other communities, there is to some <br /> 7 degree an offensive presence produced with deleterious environmen- <br /> • tal and social impacts . The nexus between pornography and crime <br /> 9 is recognized though quantification may admittedly be difficult. <br /> 10 Suffice it to say that this court concludes that the potential <br /> 11 impact of this use upon a small , cohesive area such as the Renton <br /> 12 core neighborhood we are dealing with is intensified because of <br /> 13 the small geographical area involved . The court finds the City <br /> 14 has managed to retain continuity over a considerable period of <br /> 15 time ( since 1901 ) , although it is admittedly presently surrounded <br /> 16 by suburban growth pressure. This use is clearly out of place in <br /> 17 a family-use area and the legislative purpose outlined in the <br /> 16 City' s ordinances, as amended , are supported . This use is <br /> 19 assaultive to the sensibilities of basic community interest in <br /> 20 maintaining the wholesomeness of family life and family enjoyment <br /> 21 in the vicinity involved . The presence of such a use in itself <br /> 22 conveys a message of tolerance, approval and encouragement. No <br /> 23 matter what restraint has been exercised with respect to adver- <br /> 24 tising , the titles of the films on the marquee proclaim a <br /> 25 glaringly outrageous presence virtually around the corner from St. <br /> 26 Anthony' s Church and Parochial School , the Renton Latter Day <br /> 27 Saint' s Church, the King Baptist Church, the Christian Science <br /> 28 Church, the Renton Lutheran Church, Awareness of Life Church, the <br /> 29 Renton High School and single family and multiple family housing . <br /> 30 In an era in which the community has increasingly demanded <br /> 31 higher standards of environmental quality as to visual , olfactory <br /> 32 <br /> 33 <br /> MEMORANDUM DECISION - 12 <br /> A <br />
