EVERETT CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET
PROJECT TITLE:
Municipal Golf Operations X Briefing COUNCIL BILL#
Update • Proposed Action Originating Department Parks
Consent Contact Person Lori Cummings
Action Phone Number 425-257-8353
First Reading FOR AGENDA OF March 1,2017
Second Reading
Third Reading
Public Hearing
Budget Advisory Initialed by:
Department Head
CAA
Council President
Location Preceding Action Attachments Department(s)Approval
Parks and Recreation
Amount Budgeted
Expenditure Required
Budget Remaining
Additional Required
DETAILED SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Between 2006 and 2010,the City Council was provided an annual update regarding the status of municipal
golf operations. This included outcomes achieved since implementation of a new business strategy in 2007
to improve the operation's financial performance.
Since 2011, annual Council updates have been primarily related to green fees revisions, although the Board
of Park Commissioners has continued to receive an annual report. In 2016 Council was provided a more
comprehensive golf briefing. At that time staff indicated the need to update the business strategy to help
provide the long term financial sustainability of golf operations.
This briefing will provide Council an overview of revised golf fees, effective March 15, 2017, and an update
regarding golf's business strategy analysis.
Revised golf fees were discussed at two public meetings and a public forum at the February 7,2017,regular
meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners. Meetings were advertised in The Daily Herald, on the City's
website and posted at the City's golf courses, the Swim Center and Recreation Office.
The Board of Park Commissioners finalized the 2017 fee recommendation at its February 7, 2017,
meeting. The list of 2017 rates is attached.
1
