. i
t
i
i
i
Electrical(all levels)
i
1. The last electrical work for general wiring(other than upgrading the electrical service in 2010,
which is not a permit for wiring)was noted in 1973 as having been repaired and inspected. i
There is a significant amount of electrical work evident within the building that has not been
inspected or approved. `
2. Examples of the non-permitted work include:
a. There are several exposed,yellow-colored nonmetallic sheathed cables(NM)within the
structure. NM was not produced in yellow-sheathed cable until after 2001.
b. There is a modern 2" PVC electrical conduit within the dumbwaiter shaft that feeds the
attic that has been installed after 1973. All wiring through that conduit and served by
the conduit has not been inspected and approved.
c. A room has been created in the basement and wired without permits, inspections and
approvals.
d. There are numerous exposed cut-in boxes and exposed wiring that have not been done
in an approved manner and have not been permitted, inspected and approved.
Other(all levels)
1. Most all walls and ceilings are covered in GWB which is not the original wall covering for this
structure. While some of the GWB may have been in place for several years (or decades)there
is significant evidence of GWB having been erected more recently. The building codes have
required inspection of GWB for decades as well:
a. A permit was issued in 1986 to replace walls with GWB. There are no inspections or
final approvals on record for that permit. As the permit holder let the permit to expire
without approvals, any work done on that permit is unlawful per the 1986 (and all
subsequent) building codes.
b. There have been no prior or subsequent permits in the record for GWB.
c. A GWB wall has been created to separate one room and create sleeping;rooms H & I
(first story). This is the wall that was noted in the Violation Citation as being
constructed without required permits and has been confirmed by visual inspection.
d. Several of the rooms on the first floor have been walled off from the entry hall without
required permits.
e. A room has been created in the basement and enclosed in GWB and oriented strand
board (a modern construction material). The room has been constructed without
required building permits inspections and approvals.
2. The building has recently been re-roofed as visually noted by the condition and material used
and confirmed by the tenant during walk through.
3. Stairs within the structure exceed the allowance for existing stairways at greater than 8% inch
rise and/or less than a 9 inch run.
4. The attic is accessed via a stairway that includes winder treads. The winder treads are required
to be a minimum of 6 inches in depth and a minimum of 9 inches wide at a point 12 inches from
the narrowest edge.
