My name is John Van Dalen
I live at 1316 Hoyt Ave, Everett.
29 March 2017
The City of Everett has a new taxing authority called T.B.D (not to be
confused with "To Be Determined"; but is it? The City of Everett
Council voted T.B.D. into law in 2014 and now they are collecting it in
my 2017 vehicle license tabs renewal. T.B.D. is a Transpiration Benefit
District. If you go to the City of Everett web site to the T.B.D. page
nothing has been done since February 2015. But the money is
flowing in. There were five Resolutions written, then nothing.
Who and what will benefit is a mystery because they will need to hire
staff, pay benefits and places to work. What money will be left to
really fix the Transportation Benefit District except more bureaucracy?
There are roads that have never been fixed with money we been taxed
for already. I have two quick examples; first between Pacific and 31st
on Rockefeller and second, Wetmore between 24th and 25th Street.
These are very rough roads. There are countless others but the city
either ignores them or no one is tasked to drive every city street to check
for damage
The 2017 Budget has three line items, 119, 120 and 159 (T.B.D) which
totals almost $9 million dollars. Is this for road improvements or wages
and benefits and road improvements which really mean, there is little
money left for actually fixing the roads.
So, my question is... Will any street ever get fixed other than those
related to water pipe breakage? And after driving over 42nd and Rucker
and then Broadway, this seems to be a losing battle to have safe and
fixed streets.
Thank you
