EVERETT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br />Historic Monte Cristo building in Everett. <br />13. Encourage pedestrian and transit -oriented developments with greater emphasis on <br />sidewalk improvements, landscaping, interconnected trails, and bicycle facilities. <br />14. Establish guidelines for placement of above -ground utilities, including infrastructure <br />control boxes, backup generators, utility towers, etc., to minimize visual effects on the <br />streetscape and interference with pedestrian traffic. <br />15. Design and install a system of wayfinding signs. <br />16. Require that bicycle parking location and design be shown on construction documents <br />with bicycle parking products in specifications. <br />B. Historic/Cultural Resources <br />Goal 8.2 Identify and build on Everett's historical assets and unique heritage as a <br />significant focus in neighborhood, downtown, tourism, and economic development programs. <br />These assets should be broadly interpreted to include not just structures, but also landmarks, <br />archaeological sites, heritage trees, views, and the connections between the river and the bay. <br />Objective 8.2.1 To identify historic development patterns, landmarks, structures, <br />neighborhoods, business districts, natural vistas, and archaeological sites that give Everett its <br />special character and are crucial is defining a distinct city image. <br />Objective 8.2.2 To use the expertise of the Everett Historical Commission in matters that <br />relate to the preservation of Everett's heritage and ways to retain a sense of the past as the city <br />grows and changes. <br />Objective 8.2.3 To encourage the retention of significant historical and cultural resources that <br />foster community identity and pride.
