This type of streetscape should be <br />encouraged throughout the metropolitan center <br />Promote and maintain active streetscape <br />planting program in the metropolitan <br />center. <br />Objective 8.6.10 To ensure that public and private buildings are of high quality design, <br />construction, and orientation, in keeping with design guidelines for the downtown. <br />Objective 8.6.11 To identify downtown as a vibrant neighborhood, and as a safe, attractive and <br />congenial place in which to live, work, shop, socialize, and visit. <br />The City shall: <br />Policy 8.6.1 Consider amendments to the City's land use code, as necessary, to improve <br />standards that reinforce pedestrian -friendly development in downtown, especially in areas <br />designated as retail streets. <br />Policy 8.6.2 Encourage redevelopment to include dense, mid -rise, and where allowed by <br />development standards, high-rise housing in mixed use buildings in the downtown. <br />Policy 8.6.3 Improve all downtown streets consistent with the standards of the Downtown <br />Streetscape Plan. <br />URBAN DESIGN AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION ELEMENT 19 <br />
