I.
EVERETT CITY COUNCIL RETREAT
SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 2017
RETREAT REPORT: May 5, 2017
The Everett City Council met in a retreat setting on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 8 a.m. to noon. The
primary goal of the retreat was to allow council members more time for dialogue and discussion than
is available during regular city council meetings. Council President Judy Tuohy had polled members to
determine the topics they most wanted to address during the retreat. Based on this polling, the retreat
was focused on three key issues: Safe Streets, South Everett, and Neighborhoods and Civic
Engagement. The retreat was facilitated by Margaret Norton-Arnold.
Each topic was introduced through a brief presentation from city staff members. This was followed by
questions and discussion from council members. Members also suggested a list of action items to
accomplish tangible progress on each of the three issues. The results of their preliminary work on
these "action plans" are presented in this report.
As they moved through their discussions, council members noted that it was important to have these
retreats more than once a year. Retreat settings enable members to engage in longer, more
productive dialogue, which is necessary to address the myriad of issues and opportunities facing the
City of Everett.
11Page
