21
Examole calculation for veaetation indices:
The following example (Table A.5) demonstrates the
calculation of the two indices used in assessinq tha
veqetation. The Braun-Blanquet covar class and tha WIS
values are used to calculate the these indicas.
1. Calculation of the percent of tha dominant spaciea that
are rated FAC or wetter:
3 FAC or wetter speciea y/x • 100
where,
x e number of species classified as dominant. Dominant
species being thosa specles with a cover class of 2 or
greater according to the Braun-Blanquet methodoloqy.
y number of dominant apeciea and that have WIS
ratings of FAC or wetter
2. Calculation of a Weiqhted Mean Index (WMI) :
For the calculation of a wMI, the Braun-Blanquet cover
abundance ratinga era converted to the mid-points of the
cover class and the WIS assignmants ara converted to
numerical values. Than tha calculation is dona accordinq to
the following formula:
WMI sum of (CCM * WI51
sum of (CCM)
where,
CCM = percent cover claes midpoint for each species,
Wis = Wetland Indicator Status value for each species.
