RESOLUTION NO. /5'102> <br /> A RESOLUTION authorizing bids to be submitted <br /> to Bellingham Transit for two 35-foot, 43 passenger, <br /> Buses. <br /> WHEREAS, the increase in transit ridership continues and is resulting <br /> in the need for additional bus capacity beyond that being provided with our <br /> current rolling stock; and <br /> WHEREAS, it will take approximately 18 months to receive delivery <br /> of new buses using UMTA funds for reimbursement; and <br /> WHEREAS, the current plans recommended by Everett's TAC include <br /> additional routes in the south end and north end immediately, and consideration <br /> over the next 5 years of additional service as the south end population continues <br /> to grow and more people switch to transit because of increasing fuel costs; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the service increases are being recommended in the Snohomish <br /> County Transportation Study; and <br /> WHEREAS, these service demands show the need for 26 buses on the <br /> street for the current route changes recommended by TAC which will be the <br /> total number of buses available when the remaining 7 of the recently acquired <br /> buses are made operable; and <br /> WHEREAS, 8 buses are planned to be purchased in 1981 to meet service <br /> requirements identified by the Snohomish County Transportation Study and <br /> subsequently recommended by TAC; and <br /> WHEREAS, 4 more buses will be needed to provide service to SW Everett <br /> for major employers and residential locations such as John Fluke, PUD, Kennilworth, <br /> and Boeing; and <br /> WHEREAS, the original 18 Twin Coach buses were purchased with <br /> an expected life of ten years, are eight years old, and Council has approved <br /> a 5 per year replacement schedule; and <br /> WHEREAS, the immediate ridership demand leaves no spares available <br /> 'or emergency breakdown during peak hours; and <br /> - 1 - <br />
