Prior to the public hearing staff <br /> provided Council a copy of the original proposed for-hire ordinance with amendments(in red-line)recommended by the <br /> Public Safety Committee. During the public hearing questions arose,and the hearing and the third reading were continued <br /> to allow staff to provide additional information on four topics: (1)Insurance;(2)Driver lists;(3)General business licenses; <br /> and(4)A shorter pro-active review period for the ordinance. Staff has provided information on these four topics in a <br /> memorandum dated May 18,2017. <br /> This agenda item is the continuation of the public hearing and third reading of the proposed for-hire ordinance. <br /> This Council packet includes the May 18 memorandum along with the red-lined draft ordinance presented to Council on <br /> April 19. The memorandum includes alternative language and/or options should Council wish to consider a different <br /> approach to the proposed ordinance's provisions related to insurance, driver lists,general business licenses,or the ordinance <br /> review period. These alternatives and the amendments proposed on April 19 may be considered through a motion to amend <br /> the original proposed ordinance. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council): <br /> Adopt an Ordinance Regulating For-Hire Vehicles and Repealing Ordinance 2297-98 (chapter 5.68 EMC), as <br /> amended. <br /> 11 <br />
