The ASPCA's Northern Tier Shelter Initiative grants <br /> are provided to qualified animal sheltering organizations,tribal authorities and government entities that care for <br /> homeless animals and advance animal welfare within seven states in the northern United States. <br /> The ASPCA has approved a$12,000 grant to Everett Animal Services to be used to purchase shelter sanitation <br /> equipment and associated operating supplies. The sanitation equipment will be used throughout the shelter's animal <br /> housing areas to decrease the frequency of disease and improve the health of the animals. <br /> The grant will be deposited into the Fund for Animals(Fund 151), a cumulative reserve fund that provides funds to <br /> benefit animals.A budget amendment will be requested in the future to incorporate the gift and its expenditures. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council): <br /> Authorize the Mayor to sign the$12,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals <br /> for sanitation and operations expenses at no cost to the City. <br /> 129 <br />
