Upon arrival, GeoDesign met with John Feltner.
SUMMARY of OBSERVATIONS:
Lot 164:
Previously, GeoDesign had identified an area in the north corner of the footing and crawl space excavation which consisted
of a dark brown silty SAND with gravel and trace to minor organics which could be probed 1 to 1.5 feet using a 1/2 inch
diameter soil probe. Today, GeoDesign noted that the foundation excavation subcontractor had over-excavated the area
approximately 2 feet and lined the base of the excavation with a geotextile material; the material exposed at the base of the
area consisted of a brown silty SAND with gravel which could be probed approximately 8 inches. The contractor intends on
backfilling the over-excavated area with permeable ballast material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass.
Once the excavation has been backfilled and compacted, it is the opinion of GeoDesign that the footing subgrade area for
Lot 164 will be suitable for support of the intended structure. GeoDesign recommends removing any surficially loose and
saturated material from the base of the footing areas prior to the placement of concrete.
Lot 120:
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that the foundation excavation subcontractor had completed excavation of the footing and
crawl space area for Lot 120. GeoDesign noted that the exposed footing subgrade material for Lot 120 consisted of a gray
silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could generally be probed less than 2 inches. In-place density tests taken on the
exposed footing subgrade materials indicated that the materials had been compacted to greater than 95% of its maximum
dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis.
It is GeoDesign's opinion that the exposed footing subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the intended
structure. GeoDesign recommends that any loose and saturated material be removed from the base of the footing areas
prior to the placement of concrete.
A summary of our observations and density tests taken today can be found in the attached Figure 1, Figure 2, and Nuclear
Density Gauge Data.
The client and concrete subcontractor was notified of our observations prior to our departure from the site today-
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Ourwork does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents.
