The buses have a range of
approximately 250 miles per full battery charge. This project will install the infrastructure to support a
charging station for each individual bus, independent of the Operation's facility electrical grid system. The
installation will include hardware (wire, conduit, vaults, switch cabinets, emergency backup generator
connections) and software needed to connect the system to the Snohomish County Public Utility District
(PUD) grid.
In addition to the cost to install the charging system infrastructure, Transit is currently working with
Purchasing on a sole -source agreement with PUD to provide the labor and materials needed to connect the
charging system to the power grid at an estimated cost of $30,000.
All costs associated with this charging system project, including the additional $30,000 to PUD, are funded
through a Washington State Department of Transportation grant and are exempt from sales tax.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Call for Bids for electric bus charger infrastructure installation.
