1 ORDINANCE NO. 1711-90 <br /> 2 <br /> AN ORDINANCE establishing the Seniors Against Crime Unit in <br /> 3 Everett. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that a need exists to encourage and <br /> 6 assist senior citizens of the community in implementing crime prevention <br /> 7 measures in their homes and in their personal lives; <br /> 8 WHEREAS, the Seniors Against Crime Unit would be a volunteer component <br /> 9 of the Everett Police Department that would fill the need by offering such <br /> 10 services as home security surveys, operation identification, education in <br /> 11 consumer and fraud protection, victim advocacy and moral support; and <br /> 12 WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to establish the Seniors Against Crime <br /> 13 unit in Everett (SAC) to provide meaningful opportunities for senior <br /> 14 volunteers to utilize their talents, time and concerns by assisting other <br /> 15 seniors; <br /> 16 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> 17 Section 1 : Seniors Against Crime Unit Established. <br /> 18 There is hereby established a Seniors Against Crime Unit to be a <br /> 19 volunteer component of the City of Everett Police Department. <br /> 20 Section 2: Volunteers Appointed. <br /> 21 The volunteer members of the Seniors Against Crime Unit shall be <br /> 22 appointed by the Chief of Police with the approval of the City Council . As <br /> 23 volunteers, the members shall not be entitled to nor subject to any City of <br /> 24 Everett employee benefits, Civil Service requirements, nor coverage provided <br /> 25 by the State Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters Retirement System or the <br /> 26 Public Employees Retirement System, as presently provided for or as <br /> 27 hereafter amended. <br /> 28 Section 3: Eligibility. <br /> 29 An applicant, to be eligible, must be physically and mentally fit to <br /> 30 perform the duties of a Senior Against Crime Unit member as established by <br /> 31 the City of Everett Police Department. All applicants must be able to pass <br /> 32 a police background investigation as established by the Police Department. <br />
