• <br /> • <br /> ORDINANCE NO 1671-89 <br /> AN ORDINANCE establishing and adopting the <br /> City of Everett Zoning Code and Zoning Map and <br /> modifying certain zoning ordinances in accordance with <br /> Section 44 of this ordinance. <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interests of <br /> the health, safety and welfare of its citizens to regulate such things which <br /> include but are not limited to the location and the use of buildings, <br /> structures and land for various purposes; the height, size, and design of <br /> buildings and other structures; the size of yards and setbacks; density of <br /> population; landscaping and signs; off—street parking; and environmentally <br /> sensitive areas; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interests of <br /> the health, safety and general welfare of its citizens to regulate the City <br /> through the adoption of zoning regulations and a zoning map dividing the <br /> City into various zone districts; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interests of <br /> the health, safety and welfare of its citizens to adopt interim zoning <br /> regulations for environmentally sensitive areas while the City further <br /> studies and prepares necessary zoning regulations to be considered by the <br /> City Council; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City's Planning Commission, <br /> following extensive study and review, holding of numerous public hearings <br /> and workshops, recommends the adoption of this zoning code and zoning map; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> SECTION 1 TITLE AND PURPOSE <br /> 1.010 TITLE This Ordinance shall be known as, and may be cited as, the <br /> Everett Zoning Code; or Title 19, Everett Municipal Code. <br /> 1.020 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The Everett Zoning Code is adopted to promote <br /> and protect the public health, safety and welfare through the orderly <br /> regulation of land uses in the City of Everett. Further, the purposes of <br /> this Ordinance are to: <br /> 1. Provide for high standards for a living and working environment for <br /> all citizens and visitors; <br /> 2. Provide the economic and social advantages resulting from an orderly <br /> planned use of land resources; <br /> 3. Encourage and guide development consistent with the goals and <br /> policies of the Everett General Plan; <br /> 4. Regulate the size and use of lots, setbacks and other open spaces; <br /> 5. Regulate the use, location, height, bulk, and size and design of <br /> buildings and structures; <br /> 6. Regulate land use intensity and population density; <br /> 1-01 <br />
