� • i <br /> Geotechnical Reconnaissance <br /> 2616 Baker Avenue <br /> Everett, Washington <br /> August 28, 2015 <br /> Conclusions <br /> The site appears underlain by dense glacial till soil at a depth of about 4 feet below grade. The <br /> dense unit was mantled by loosc to medium dense silty SAND. The upper unit appeared <br /> weathered to a depth of about 3 feet below ground surface. The medium dense silty SAND <br /> appeared suitable for conventional foundation support. We concluded that the settlement was <br /> causcd by footings placed too shallow in the upper soil horizon, and periodic dosing of the soil <br /> from downspouts that causcd thc soil to loose strcngth. <br /> Important geotechnical elements to consider in the foundation repair and replacement include the <br /> following: <br /> • Provide temporary support of the existing residence while new foundations are <br /> excavated. <br /> • Support the new foundations on native, undisturbed, medium dense silty SAND <br /> anticipated to be found at a depth approximately 3 feet below ground surface. <br /> • Direct discharge from the downspouts to dry wells or infiltration trenches at least 10 feet <br /> away from the foundation. <br /> Recommendations <br /> We recommend supporting the existing residence on a perimeter concrete foundation alonb with <br /> intcrior concrete strip footings to support the posts. Spccific recommendations are providcd <br /> bclow. <br /> E�-osion Control <br /> Tn order to prcvent erosion �nd potential d�mage to thc stcep slopc we recommcnd the following: <br /> 1. Provision should bc madc for storing construction matcrials and allowing construction <br /> equipmcnt to acccss the site and restoring traffickcd arcas following coustniction. <br /> Mlintain the strect and alley frce of sediment during excavation and l�auling and when <br /> mobilizi�l� ec�uipmcnt to and from the site. Mud and silt tracked from the sitc s��ould bc <br /> rcmovcd or cicaned by thc contractor. <br /> 2. No stormwater ninoff should be allowed to discharge off of the site�vithout first passinb <br /> through a straw wattle or over a vegctated path at least 10 feet long. <br /> 3. Exposed soils and stockpiled soil sl�ould be protected witb tarps until permanent <br /> landscaping is completed. <br /> 4. Plantinb should occur immediately after constniction is coinpleted. Tl�c contractar <br /> should monitor the performance of tlle erosion control measures and contact the <br /> gcotechnical engincer if the TESC mcasures do not providc the intendcd fi,inction. <br /> 5.
