Position 4 will be in the 2018 election, to
complete the term which runs through the end of 2019.
Process for tonight:
• 24 of the 27 applicants are available tonight and will be given 5 minutes to introduce
themselves and why they feel they are the best candidate for this appointment.
• We had 2 applicants withdraw and 3 of the 27 applicants could not attend this evening.
Council has received by way of a letter, an introduction for Ryan Kilby who could not be here
this evening. All other information has been provided to full council and a link is available on
the city of Everett website for any members of the public who wish to view the applications
submitted for the interim council position. Those who were not able to attend will also be
considered tonight as well.
• Once all the applicants have had a chance to speak, each council member will provide the
clerk with 2 recommendations to move forward for interview, the city clerk will collect those,
read them out loud and tally the recommendations. The 6 applicants with the most
recommendations will be invited back for an interview starting at 3 pm on January 3rd.
• In the event we have more or less than 6 applicants recommended for the interview
process, we will have additional subsequent recommendations from Council until we have 6
applicants for the interview process.
•
To expedite this process tonight and in an attempt to keep this proceeding fair and equitable
for all applicants the process will be as follows:
• All applicants will be staged in the conference room until it is time for their introduction.
• Applicants will be introduced in alphabetical order and staff will instruct each when it is their
time.
• Applicants will not be introduced and are asked to state their name for the record and for
council.
• The 5 minute allowance will be strictly enforced. Please take note of the lights, yellow
means 1 minute, flashing yellow 30 seconds and red time is up. Mid-sentence or not.
• There will be no public comments made regarding any of the applicants, all written
comments have been collected and given to the council members.
• We ask that everyone be respectful of all applicants speaking, many for the first time, and
that if you enter or must leave the council chambers, that you do so in between introductions.
• We also ask all members of the audience to refrain from making verbal comments and
clapping during this process.
• At the midway point in the introductions we will be taking a 5 min. break, after Ethel McNeal.
• After all introductions are complete we will begin the selection process.
Deb Williams
Executive Assistant, Everett City Council
