April 31, 2015
City of Everett Planning
City o Everett Fire Department
City of Everett Code Compliance
Z u
n
RE: Request for temporary occupancy of residentialfloor
Job Address: 3231 Broadway, lames Haugen Owner
To whom it may concern,
I would like to request at this time, a lifting of the condemnation of the 3d floor residential apartments
for temporary occupancy.A lot of work has taken place to correct conditions notated in the June 27,
2014 letter. Alt non permitted corrections have been repaired and a verification walk through of the
building by Assistant Fire Marshall Jim Venturo has taken place.Since receiving our permit, the focus of
repair has been the 3d floor. At this time, the fire escape is now functioning properly and was inspected
on 3/30/2014 and was noted repaired as per plans. Smoke and CO detectors have been installed in all of
the residences and hallway. Exit signs with battery back-up have been installed. Emergency lighting has
been added to the residence main level exiting/entry hallway. Raised letter Braille exit signs have been
ordered and should arrive within a few days. Goldfinch Brothers are working on the windows and said
they should be installed within 30 days. The current windows are inches short of the height requirement
and exceed the width requirement by 25 inches. The net opening of 6%square feet exceeds the
required 5.7.
With the work that has been completed and with the ongoing effort, I believe we have made sufficient
progress in correcting these issues that brought forth the condemnation. The residents that have been
displaced have had to seek other residences for a couple of months and are eager to return to their
previous residence. I have a son that lives in one of the residences and I would not compromise his or
any others safety.
An 11x17 copy of the plans are included that notate in green, items that have been corrected, yellow, ,
items that will be completed by next week and the rest of the remaining issues for this permit will be '
corrected by the end of April. Bob Wicks, my architect, and I will be meeting this Friday the 3d at 9:30 to e'
review issues for receiving our second permit on building zoning and occupancy. We will have the ,3.a1`>"
permit application submitted by the end April.
It has been a long time to get to this point but much progress has been made and granting this return
for our residents will go a long way in acknowledging the work and cost that has taken place.
B regards, s,"
r h ,,i _ . y
` .. k
,c/ ; ,i lI -,.
James Haugen I '_: _ =
o;_01 W.,J" I`.'., ,•'.ri Y^caxA.,
1 1-4t1. a \{'yv...x..-
