Jeff Heilman
From: Mark A Codispoti, PE <mac.pe@codispoti.com> .
Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2017 8:16 AM z , ;iJ' : S °:
To: Jeff Heilman
Subject: B1702-055 (Craft: 11519 2ND AVE SE) ; ,sy 'D 7 Z° .
Attachments: 04-17.Craft Shed Calculations (170208).pdf °
I' C? 1.icTT
- ,,..
Mr. Heilnlan
I just this week received from the homeowner of the subject referenced project a copy of your review and
correction letter (dated 3/14/17).
I provided structural engineering design for the project and will be providing responses for the first two listed
items.
I presume the attached calculations were available to you at the time of your review, but attaching just in case.
Regarding the correction notice: " -a r
E C /_. c3
 , .
1. What specific building code provision are you citing that requires analysis and design by a "... licensed
WA state structacral engineer for walls ove 10 feet,..."
I am not a licensed structurcl engineer. I have been a licensed professional Civil Engineer in responsible
charge for the structural design of hundreds of project in the State of WA over the last three decades. And while
I never attempt to provide structural design outside my area of expertise, I have yet to encounter such a low
design threshold for a licensed structural engineer requirement. Dozens of projects I have completed include 2-
story walls, well over 10', approved, constructed and in use today.
• FtJRTHERMORE: How does this specifically relate to roof diaphragm nailing, which was verified for
this little wood box`?
While somewhat related, do not understand why these two distinct items within the same review comment.
(And while code miniinum nailing all that is required, It does appear the roof diaphragm nailing note of 8d @
6" / 12" may have been inadvertently deleted trom the plan notes.
I will assure this gets added back in.)
Thank you for your reply and guidance regarding to approve this little project.
1 c%C v /'a"S``
-- - l,""N ' Z:`= i/= '-
- D PyF7 G/ O
//Li,i„
Mark A Codispoti, PE z
1118 N Sth Street 1-Ay;; /v' ac/' S// •
Tacoma, WA 98403-1611
Oiiice-Home: 253-267-6766
i
