The purpose of our work is to support Moffatt&Nichol in its design to upgrade
the concrete cargo dock to allow for higher load capacity.
' The information and recommendations presented in this report are intended to provide the design
team with the geotechnical recommendations needed to prepare bidding documents. Included in
' this report are a site and project description, a discussion of the completed geotechnical
exploration, the interpreted subsurface soil and groundwater conditions, geotechnical
engineering recommendations for pile design, and construction considerations for pile driving.
The work included in this report was conducted in general accordance with the scope of work
related to the wharf upgrade outlined in our proposal dated January 29, 2014, and as outlined in
our subcontract with Moffatt&Nichol (MN) executed on March 24, 2014. Based on discussions
with MN,the scope of work in the original proposal was modified to include an evaluation of the
' existing wharf piles and a reduction in the number of deep borings from two to one. This change
in scope was effective beginning April 2014 and resulted in a net zero change in budget. Work
related to the portion of the scope addressing the rail upgrade will be presented in a separate
' report as directed by MN.
2.0 SITE AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION
' Thero'ect is located at the Port's South Terminal wharf as shown in the VicinityMap,J Fi gure 1.
' Our understanding of the project is based on discussions with and drawings provided by MN
which is summarized as follows:
I .'
The portion of the South Terminal wharf that is to be upgraded is located between
pile rows 27 and 35, as shown in the site and exploration plan,Figure 2.
1
' 21-1-21962-003-R2.docx/wp/cp 21-1-21962-003
1
