1
for three (3) days or 50°F for five (5) days after placing. Provide temporary housing or
coverings including tarpaulins or plastic film. Keep protections in place and intact at least
1 24 hours after artificial heat is discontinued. Keep concrete moist. Avoid rapid dry-out of
concrete due to over-heating and avoid thermal shock due to sudden cooling or heating.
1 3. When air temperature has fallen to or is expected to fall below 40°F, uniformly heat all
water and aggregates before mixing as required to obtain a concrete mixture temperature
of not less than 50°F, and not more than 80°F, at point of placement.
4. Do not use frozen materials containing ice or snow. Do not place concrete on frozen
subgrade or on subgrade containing frozen materials.Ascertain that forms, reinforcing steel
and adjacent concrete surfaces are entirely free of frost, snow and ice before placing
concrete.
1 5. Do not use calcium chloride, salt and other materials containing antifreeze agents or
chemical accelerators unless otherwise accepted in mix designs.
E. Hot Weather Placing
1. When hot weather conditions exist that would seriously impair the quality and strength of
concrete, place concrete in compliance with ACI 305 and as herein specified.
2. Cool ingredients before mixing to maintain concrete temperature at time of placement
below 90°F. Mixing water may be chilled, or chopped ice may be used to control the
concrete temperature provided the water equivalent of the ice is calculated to the total
amount of mixing water.
3. Cover reinforcing steel with water soaked burlap if it becomes too hot so that the steel
temperature will not exceed the ambient air temperature immediately before embedment in
concrete.
4. Wet forms thoroughly before placing concrete.
t5. Do not use retarding admixtures unless otherwise accepted in mix designs.
3.4 FINISH OF FORMED SURFACES
A. Rough Form Finish
For formed concrete surfaces not exposed to view in the finish work or covered by other
construction, unless otherwise shown or specified. This is the concrete surface having the
texture imparted by the form facing material used, with tie holes and defective areas repaired
and patched and fins and other projections exceeding 1/4inch in height rubbed down or chipped
off.
B. Smooth Form Finish
I
Legion Golf Course Stormwater Detention Project Concrete Work
WO#UP3620 03 11 00-7
