9
April 14,2015
To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you so much for considering our request to hold the ninth annual Brett
Jensen Memorial Fun Run/Walk which will be held on Saturday,August 25,2018,with
the assembly area being at Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd. in North Everett.
We would like to provide you with more details about our request for this event.
Background: Our son,Brett, attended Cascade High School where he graduated in 2001.
He was a wonderful, talented, kind, fun loving, and caring young adult. Among his many
accomplishments,he was Associated student Body President, had a 4.0 grade point
average, played football and track, was a Washington Scholar, a graduation speaker,
elected Governor of Boy's State and was selected to Cascade High School's Hall of
Fame, In the fall of 2001 he entered the University of Washington. Tragically, on May
7,2002 he fell to his death off the third story deck of his fraternity. As you can imagine
this event has devastated our family and changed our lives forever. Shortly after his
death, we established the Brett Akio Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund, In fourteen
years we have given out over$150,000 to local high school students in the Everett area.
Each year we give one scholarship to a deserving Cascade High School student and one
in partnership with the Rotary Club of Everett..
Purpose of the Event: The purpose for doing the fun run/walk is really four-fold: 1.
First and foremost to remember and honor Brett.2. To stress the importance of health and
fitness. 3.To raise some money so that we can continue giving scholarships through
Brett's Memorial Fund. 4. To have fun.
Route: The route we have chosen is clearly marked on the enclosed map. We would
start and finish at Legion Memorial Park. The approximately 3.5 mile route would go
from Legion, head west on Alverson and continue south on Grand to 19th street. At 19th
street, the runners and walkers would turn around and run north on Grand back to Legion
Memorial Park. The participants would run/walk on the sidewalks, bike paths and
shoulders of the road so as not to block traffic. We feel that this route would have
minimal effect on traffic as a whole and would require little supervision. Like the last
eight years no streets would have to be closed for this event. We would have a traffic
controller where the run begins and also at 19th and Grand. Traffic cones will be placed
where there are no sidewalks or bicycle lanes.
Preparation: We are willing to do whatever is required or needed to prepare for this
event. The Alverson neighborhood will be be notified through their local association.
Please contact Mark Sadler at the City of Everett regarding this or any other concerns you
may with traffic control, safety, etc. Mark's work number is 425-257-8967.
This event would mean a great deal not only to our family but to the hundreds of
friends who Brett enjoyed during his short 19 years here on earth. Thank you again for
your time and consideration. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call us at
either 425 338 1877 or 425 330 8430.
Sincerely,Don,Jan,and Megan.Jensen
50
