In recent years, the District has embarked on an ambitious plan to modernize older buildings.
Despite this endeavor, there still are a few 25 to 50 year old facilities which are in need of
renovation. Without the necessary modernization, it is an on-going maintenance challenge to
keep these schools in service.
In addition to major new construction and modernization work on school facilities, the District
is finding it necessary to address other district -wide needs. Mechanical system upgrades,
roofing replacements, seismic upgrades, technology upgrades and a central bus facility are
among these needs.
The District construction program in recent years has been financed in large part by passage of
a $96.5 million bond issue in 1990, a $68.5 million bond issue in 1996 and a $74.0 million
bond issue in 2002. In February 2006 the voters approved a $198.9 million bond issue
including a new elementary school, additions, modernizations, property acquisitions,
technology upgrades, and a variety of other projects. Lesser amounts have come from state
match and growth mitigation fees.
Everett School District 1 - 3 Capital Facilities Plan
