GeoDesign probed the submerged
foundation subgrade material to identify areas which may require over-excavation using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe;
GeoDesign noted that penetration depths were generally limited to less than 2 inches.
GeoDesign noted the presence of surficiai pockets of loose and saturated material across the foundation subgrade area
and recommended that the foundation excavation be dewatered and surficially loose and saturated material be removed.
GeoDesign noted the foundation excavation subcontractor began dewatering the excavation prior to our departure from the
site.
Today,GeoDesign observed the exposed foundation subgrade for Lot 122. GeoDesign noted that the foundation and crawl
space excavation had been completed prior to our arrival on-site. The exposed foundation subgrade material generally
consisted of a gray silty SAND(f-m)with gravel. For the eastern portion of the foundation area, penetration depths using a
1/2 inch diameter soil probe were less than 2 inches. For the western portion of the foundation area, penetration depths
using the soil probe were approximately 1 foot. GeoDesign delineated the western area with foundation subgrade soils not
currently suitable for support of the intended structure using orange spray paint. GeoDesign recommends that the identified
soils be over-excavated down to firm and unyielding material,a non-woven geotextile placed, and backfilled with 2-inch
clean crushed permeable ballast material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
The client and and foundation excavation subcontractor were notified of our observations prior to our departure from the site
today.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report Is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewesdffr section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 i Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 1253.203.0095
—310
