City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1 through December 31, 2018
Work Opportunities
Employment Supports for Individuals with Disabilities
EXHIBIT A: Program Summary
This program supports people with disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment. We support
individuals with job preparation activities: learning work appropriate behaviors, volunteering, and
increasing vocational skills. We also provide job development services: completing applications,
networking with businesses and assisting with interviews. When people with disabilities are employed,
we assist them with maintaining their job through:job coaching, intensive training, and supporting
supervisors and co-workers.
We meet the needs of people with disabilities by providing career path services to this population to
ensure their inclusion and participation in the community and workplace. This objective aligns with City
of Everett's Human Needs priorities, of increasing self-sufficiency and addressing diversity. Our program
services are designed to increase the self-sufficiency of the individuals we serve through helping them
earn increased wages and create a more inclusive workplace by matching employers with qualified
workers who have disabilities; ultimately improving diversity in the workforce.
Program components include Vocational Assessment,Job Preparation,Job Placement, and Job
Retention Services. These are described in depth in Section A. Clients are involved in vocational
assessments that ascertains a person's interest, skills, and goals. The person and their team then decide
which employment activities to engage in to meet their employment goals. Each person is assigned an
Employment Specialist who provides vocational services for the individual. Finding the person a job
might be the first order of business, or developing skills through volunteering might be the best place to
start on the career path. The process is designed to meet the needs of the individual and the potential
employer. The ultimate goal is for every person to have paid employment, earning a livable wage, that
meets their interests and needs.
