City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1 through December 31, 2018
Snohomish County Music Project
Music Therapy for At-Risk Children
EXHIBIT A: Program Summary
The Music Project seeks to promote the positive social development of children and
youth using music and, as a result, build safe and healthy communities. The Music
Therapy Initiative objective is to use the power of music to inspire disconnected children
and youth to develop pro-social, self-esteem and resiliency skills.
(1) Students sign up for this program through Horizon Elementary; (2) music therapists
work with the students to build their ability to follow directions, make decisions, self-
regulate, and have positive social interactions; and (3) with each quarter lasting 11
weeks and culminating in a recital, students are given the opportunity to showcase their
skills through individual and group performance to their significant community members.
The agency targets students in grades 3-5 at Horizon Elementary School. Six (6) 1-hour
long group sessions take place during 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays with a maximum of
6 students in each group.
Board certified music therapists will be responsible for planning and implementing music
therapy programs for designated groups. Interns and practicum students will also be
used as appropriate.
This funding will support 22 music therapy sessions serving a minimum of 70 of the City
of Everett's at-risk children during this grant cycle.
11 weeks x 8 hrs. per day = 88 hrs. x 2 quarters = 176 units
