ENGINEERING
PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT
August 2, 2017
Janet Monda, AIA
janet@awerks.com
Architectural Werks, Inc.
11416 98th Ave NE, STE 200
Kirkland, WA 98033
RE: Owner: Community Health Center of Snohomish County
Job Address: 4205 Rucker Ave
Plan Check Number: B1705-065
Dear Ms. Monda,
In response to your application for a construction permit, your plans have been examined and you
are advised that revisions may be necessary before a permit can be issued. Please review and
respond to the comments below. These comments address building issues only. Additional
revisions or additions may be required by other departments (such as Public Works, Planning, or
Fire). All references refer to the 2015 International Building Code (IBC), as amended by the State
of Washington and adopted by the City of Everett. The current IBC referenced standard for
accessible design is the 2009 "Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities" (ICC/ANSI A117.1).
Federal ADA regulations and standards may be more restrictive. All required submittals must be of
sufficient detail and information to ensure that the proposed structure will be constructed in
compliance with all adopted codes.
In order for the processing of your application to continue, it will be necessary to
provide the Building Division with two complete new sets of construction documents
reflecting the corrections requested. All revisions require the person delivering the
drawings to replace the revisions into the two sets here at our offices. For significant
revisions, or if the revisions are coming directly from a document printing facility,
please make arrangements with them to print and deliver two replacement sets.
Structural
11. Previous Comment: On detail 6/S3.1, a kerf plate is being provided to connect between
individual braces. However, the other brace that is being kerfed through to accommodate
the plate does not meet the gross area and strength requirements per AISC 341-10 Sec
F2.5b. Please verify that the reinforcing plate is provided for the full length of the kerf
region and satisfies strength and development requirements.
New Comment:On Detail 6/S3.1, per the response, it appears that the 1/2"Grade 50 kerf
plate is meant to take both tension and compression loads simultaneously. One set of
braces in tension, while the other set of braces is undergoing compression loading. Please
provide an analysis that validates this behavior of the plate or provide a reinforcement
plate for the kerfed HSS that spans the full length of kerf and is developed on each end of
the kerf. Also, the kerf plate that is called does not appear to develop the full expected
tPage1of2)
CITY OF EVERE1T • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8810 • Fax (425) 257—
