The existing building has a complete lateral system
even though the existing lateral system consists of non-compliant steel moment frames. The
redundancy factor of 1.0 was used because, independent of the new braced frames, there is an existing
lateral system for the building. Removal of one of the braces in the braced frame system will not result
in a reduction in story strength or extreme torsional irregularity.
Item 2.
a. Please see revised sheet S2.1 and revised/added footing details. New footing extensions are
intended to partially lap over the existing footings and match existing bottom of footing
elevations. The top of footing elevation would be set at the same elevation as current column
plinths.
b. See revised footing details. The new footing overlays/extensions will be doweled together so
that horizontal sliding forces can be resisted by combined however compression and uplift
forces from the braced frames are intended to be resisted by the micropiles.
c. See approximate dimensions provided on Sheet S2.1
d. Only sliding forces are intended to be shared and resisted by the combined new and existing
footings. Some vertical load sharing is inevitable but not part of the design. The existing
footings are sized for all gravity loads and the footing extension and micropiles are designed for
uplift and compression forces from the braced frames.
