GeoDesign noted that
the east side of the lot area had been over-excavated approximately 1 foot. The exposed foundation subgrade material
generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could be probed less than 2 inches using a 1/2
inch diameter soil probe.
Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade material was tested using a Troxler 3430 Moisture-Density gauge.
In-place density tests indicated that the exposed foundation subgrade for Lot 259 had been compacted to greater than 95%
of its maximum dry density. GeoDesign notified Craig with DDS that the lot area was suitable for placement of structural
backfill to bring the lot area to plan bottom of footing.
LOT 60-
Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had excavated the foundation and crawl-space area for Lot 260. GeoDesign noted that
the east side of the lot area had been over-excavated approximately 1 foot. The exposed foundation subgrade material for
the east 3/4's of the lot area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could be probed
less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. For the west 1/4 of the lot area, the foundation subgrade material
consisted of a gray silty SAND which could be probed 6 inches to 1 foot using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe; GeoDesign
clearly marked the area with orange spray paint and notified Craig with DDS that we recommended removal of the loose
material down to firm and unyielding underlying soil.
Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade material for the east 3/4's of the lot area was tested using a
Troxler 3430 Moisture-Density gauge. In-place density tests indicated that the exposed foundation subgrade for Lot 260 had
been compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry density. GeoDesign notified Craig with DDS that the east 3/4's of
the lot area was suitable for placement of structural backfill to bring the lot area to plan bottom of footing.
A summary of our observations and density tests can be found in the attached Figure 1, Nuclear Density Gauge Data, and
Photo Log.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not Include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents.
