GEODESIGNv FIELD REP of
Project Name: i Everett River Front-Simpson Report: 055
GeoDesign#: Polygon-127-03 Date: 07/12/2017
Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW1505-005
Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) Randy Allen(City of Everett) Weather: Clear, 60-70's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 0915/1015
Distribution:
Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett)
Paul McKee(City of Everett) Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Ben Weinberg
m Site Plan(s) m Density Test Summary Signature:
Attachments: ❑ Installation Records ❑ Other
Reviewed By: RL
PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Craig with DDS to
observe the foundation subgrade for Lots 242 and 257.
SUMMARY of OBSERVATIONS:
LOT 242:
Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 242. GeoDesign
noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND with gravel which appeared to be
partially cement-treated. Penetration depths encountered across the lot area were less than 1 inch. Craig with DDS stated
that exposed ground was difficult to excavate and did not exhibit any signs of pumping/yielding under the load of the
excavator bucket.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and/or saturated material be removed from the base
of the foundation area prior to the placement of concrete.
LOT 257:
Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 257. GeoDesign
noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray to gray-brown silty SAND with gravel. Penetration depths
encountered across the lot area was generally less than 4 inches. Craig with DDS noted that the lot area required 0.5 to 2
feet of over-excavation to expose firm and unyielding ground. Relative compaction of the exposed subgrade material was
tested using a Troxler Moisture-Density Gauge; in-place density tests indicated that the exposed subgrade had been
compacted to greater than 95% of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis.
GeoDesign notified the client and contractor that the excavation was currently suitable for placement of structural backfill.
material. GeoDesign noted that BDZ began loading material into the excavation today using a dump truck. The material
was not placed or compacted today.
A summary of our observations and density tests taken today can be found in the attached Figure 1 and Nuclear Density
Gauge Data.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By'section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
