<br />Definition
<br />Performs journey -level maintenance. repair, reconstruction work on bridges in one ormore skilled
<br />craft Irades a majority or the time.
<br />Distinguishing Characteristics
<br />Individuals in this class have established journey -level skills In one or more trades and are assigned
<br />to perform independently or as the principal journey worker on specialized tasks. They instruct other
<br />workers assisting in their specialty and ensure satisfactory completion of assignments.
<br />Positions In this class are assigned lull -lime to a bridge maintenance am.
<br />Typical Work
<br />Maintains, repairs and replaces mechanical equipment comprising floating draw spans, cable.
<br />systems, larking and tmnion mechanisms, and hydraulic water pumping systems:
<br />Inspects, maintains, and repairs concrete floatation structures, pumping, cleaning, and apply epoxy
<br />patching as required;
<br />Adjusts and replaces anchor cables;
<br />Inspects, maintains, and replaces electrical equipment and arm try involving obstruction lights,
<br />wrong, conduit, fixtures, controls, and switches;
<br />Inspects and repairs steel stmdures and mountings by sand -blasting, welding, straightening, and
<br />painting;
<br />Provides traffic control and operates road veledes as required to accomplish bridge roadway repair
<br />and maintenance tasks;
<br />Operates Class A highway equipment in snow and Ice control and in support of bridge maintenance
<br />activities;
<br />Operates and maintains the work boat used In repair and maintenance of the floating badges:
<br />Repairs and replaces wool, steel, and masonry ratings, deck, structure members, caps. Pilings,
<br />walkways. dolphins, and traffic barrier gates;
<br />Assembles staging, rigging, scaffolding, manual hoists Including applying ropes. cables, splices,
<br />stinson planks, etc.;
<br />As assigned takes the lead with lesser grade Bridge Technicians on crew assignments, providing
<br />operation instruction and job inspection personally performing the more difficult tasks;
<br />Performs journey -levet work in construction and repair of buildings and other structures;
<br />Performs welding and burning.
<br />Performs other related work as required
<br />Knowledge and Abilities
<br />Knowledgeof: heavy timber carpentry construefion, scaffolding and masonry formsallweatheror
<br />manna wiring. high voltage service systems. A.C. motor installation and controls systems and
<br />navigational lighting systems; Inspection, lubrication and repair of heavy-duty dove machinery, roller
<br />assemblies and reduction gears; high-pressure hydraulic actuating systems and equipment
<br />inspection and repair. structural steel Inspection for corrosion, fatigue, and damage requiring repair
<br />replacement: masonry inspection. repair, aril patching.
<br />Ability to: read and Interpret engineering drawings and sketches; construct timber and planking
<br />roadways. dolphins, fenders, masonry [arms. scaffolds, staging: provide egging for workmen,
<br />equipment, lashings, transport: operate the following job equipment: sand blasting, spray painting,
<br />high pressure hydraulic. metal burning and welding, water pumps; replace electrical condud and
<br />conductors; operate traffic control light systems and movable spans: provide roadway traffic control
<br />wok in high places or suspended rigging.
