In a similar way, the above joists
are recommended for substantial end-splicing of an additional piece to provide
proper full bearing
The specifications for the end-of-joist splice are as follows:
1. Use a splice member size 2" x-8ame as the joists, length approximately 18"
to 24"long. /O".ASII
2 Side splice to existing member, with extension to provide full bearing with the
supporting wall
3. Fasten the new member to the existing joist with 1/4" x 3" lag screws at 4''
spacing around the top, bottom and ends of the splice connection. No screws are
required in the center of the splice overlap since they have no significant
theoretical loading, the splice connection being considered as a "rotating"
connection.
Note that minor bottom notching of either the existing or new members has no
adverse effect in this location
Attached are photo/sketches of the already completed repairs. installed per these
recommendations, The repairs may be considered acceptable and complete.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Bade S MacVeigh, P.E.
Civil Engineer . ° J lai09vaavejoistrprs02/1584
1111° .
71,
file:///C:/Users/SAM1.SNOISLESRV.090/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary... 1/11/2017
