City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1 through December 31, 2018
ChildStrive
Counseling in Early Intervention
EXHIBIT A: Program Summary
Families of children birth to three years of age who qualify to receive Early Intervention Services by
having at least a 25%delay in one or more areas of development. Parents are typically the focus of the
services because of their issues of depression, grief and loss, inability to attach or bond with their child,
or marital discord or stress related to their child's condition. The child may be involved in the sessions if
attachment or bonding is a problem. Ultimately the parents and the child benefit from the adults
resolving these difficult issues and being more present and capable as parents.
Services are provided as needed by a family as outlined in the Individualized Service Plan (IFSP) which is
developed by the counselor and the parents. A counselor provides services to the family until the goals
specified in the IFSP have been met, or until the child turns three and the family transitions out of Early
Intervention services.A typical session is 60 minutes and the frequency of the sessions is based on the
goals for the family.
Services are provided by Master's prepared Social Workers, Counselors or Marriage and Family
Counselors employed by ChildStrive. Staff receive training related to working with families with children
with disabilities; parent coaching; and reflective coaching and practice. Each counselor receives regular
Reflective Supervision from a licensed Social Worker or Marriage & Family Counselor.
