 l
EXPLORATION PIT LOG
EP-1 Located 15 feet West and 6 feet South of SW corner of garage. Pit located at
slide head scarp in landscaped area near old sewer line alignment. Surface
elevation approx. 293 feet.
0.0 - 3.0 Soft, moist, grey brown, very fine sandy silt, FILL.
Encounter two (2) 4-inch green sewer pipes running sub-parallel to slope contour
(north-south) at a depth of 2.4 feet below surface. Pipes lie about 2 feet apart
and run parallel, with the east pipe lying about 6 inches above the west pipe.
The east pipe has been separated at a joint. Measure 12-inches of separation
between the bell end and the factory tapered end. The pipes lie about 19 and 21
feet West respectively from the Southwest corner of the garage.
3.0 - 6.5 Soft to medium stiff, moist, grey brown, mottled, very fine sandy silt with trace
clay, slightly broken (hackled) texture, Fill or Landslide Deposits.
At about 6 feet, texture becomes very hackled with small inclusions of hard
broken laminated clay/silt, trace jointing and Fe0 stain on joint surFaces,
Landslide Deposits.
6.5 - 7.5 Loose/medium stiff(?), saturated, grey brown grading to grey, very broken, clay
silt, fine hackling, slicks on fragments, slide plane.
T.D. @ 7.5 feet, 5-13-11, equipment depth limit due to position on pit.
Note: Saturated ground encountered at 6.5 to 7.5 feet. Interpret saturation related to proximity
of slide plane, and is not interpreted to represent regional or local ground water level.
114-3 May 2011
Geological Services
Figure EPL-1
