1 5-04.2(1)C Mix Design Resubmittal for QPL Approval
9 pp
2 Item number 3 of the first paragraph is revised to read:
I 3
4 3. Changes in modifiers used in the asphalt binder.
5
6 5-04.2(2)B Using Warm Mix Asphalt Processes
7 This section, including title, is revised to read:
8
I 9
10 5-04.2(2)B Using HMA Additives
The Contractor may, at the Contractor's discretion, elect to use additives that reduce the
11 optimum mixing temperature or serve as a compaction aid for producing HMA. Additives
12 include organic additives, chemical additives and foaming processes. The use of
13 Additives is subject to the following:
14
15 • Do not use additives that reduce the mixing temperature in accordance with
16 Section 5-04.3(6) in the production of High RAP/Any RAS mixtures.
17
18 • Before using additives, obtain the Engineer's approval using WSDOT Form
19
350-076 to describe the proposed additive and process.
20
21 5-04.3(3)A Mixing Plant
22 In item number 5 of the first paragraph, "WSDOT T 168" is revised to read "FOP for AASHTO
23 T 168".
24
1 25 5-04.3(4) Preparation of Existing Paved Surfaces
26 The first sentence of the fourth paragraph is revised to read:
27
28 Unless otherwise approved by the Engineer, use cationic emulsified asphalt CSS-1,
29 CSS-1 h, or Performance Graded (PG) asphalt for tack coat.
30
31 5-04.3(6) Mixing
32 The first paragraph is revised to read:
33
34 The asphalt supplier shall introduce recycling agent and anti-stripping additive, in the
35 amount designated on the QPL for the mix design, into the asphalt binder prior to
36 shipment to the asphalt mixing plant.
37
38 The seventh paragraph is revised to read:
39
40 Upon discharge from the mixer, ensure that the temperature of the HMA does not
41 exceed the optimum mixing temperature shown on the approved Mix Design Report by
42 more than 25°F, or as approved by the Engineer. When an additive is included in the
43 manufacture of HMA, do not heat the additive (at any stage of production including in
44 binder storage tanks) to a temperature higher than the maximum recommended by the
45 manufacturer of the additive.
46
47 5-04.3(8) Aggregate Acceptance Prior to Incorporation in HMA
48 The following new paragraph is inserted after the first paragraph:
49
50 The Contracting Agency's combined aggregate bulk specific gravity (Gsb) blend as
51 shown on the HMA Mix Design will be used for VMA calculations until the Contractor
52 submits a written request for a Gsb test. The new Gsb will be used in the VMA
53 calculations for HMA from the date the Engineer receives the written request for a Gsb
HOT MIX ASPHALT OVERLAY-2018 PAGE 11 OF 53 March 6,2018
WORK ORDER#3667
AMENDMENTS TO STANDARD PROVISIONS
