Lori Cummings
From: Lori Cummings
Sent: Wednesday, May 9, 2018 4:15 PM
To: DL-Council
Cc: Deb Williams
Subject: RE: History of Everett Performing Arts Theater
Attachments: PerformingArtsManagementAgreement.pdf
Councilmembers,
In response to Councilmember Murphy's question I share the following. Since 2014 the Village Theatre has paid rent to
the city. The majority of the revenue posted on the attached on line "Rental Income Main Theatre" is revenue
associated with rental fees paid to the city by Village Theatre.
Tonight council will be asked to authorize the Mayor to sign Amendment No 1 to the Village Theatre Agreement
extending the contract to August 31, 2019. The current agreement expires on August 31, 2018.
Prior to considering any change to the existing agreement Parks staff need time to analyze the management and
operation model. The Cultural Arts Department was moved under the umbrella of the Parks and Community Services
Department in late February which included the management of the Everett Performing Art Center(EPAC). In reviewing
the agreement staff learned that the expiration date was August 31, 2018. To give Parks staff sufficient time to evaluate
the terms and conditions including revenue sources and expenses staff have recommended a one year extension to do
the necessary analytical work. That work will be brought back to council.
The extension carries forth all terms and conditions of the previous agreement.
Below is some basic information:
• The Village Theatre has a reputation of providing high quality performances, excellent and well-loved and
attended programs and has earned our appreciation for their many years of commitment to the advancement of
performing arts in Everett.
• During the 2016-2017 season the Village Theatre reached a new milestone of 20,000 subscribers and had
approximately 75,000 people walk through the doors.
• The Village Theatre provides all management, operations and custodial staff for both the Performing Art Center
and the Cope-Gillette Theatre.
• They offer a minimum of five (5) mainstage productions, held over 20 weeks annually at the Everett Performing
Art Center.
• 19,500 youth have participated in Kidstage classes, summer camps and productions in Everett to date.
• The Village Theatre has scheduled 1,870 additional performances, concerts, classes and meetings since 1998.
• The Village Theatre pays rent to the city associated with their use of the EPAC for Village Theatre
performances. In 2017 rental revenue was$48,334. This information is noted on the attachment, line titled
"Rental Income Main Theatre".
• The city compensates the Village Theatre for management services. The line titled "EPAC Management Fee" on
the attached lists the annual management fee paid to the Village Theatre. In 2017 it was$300,357.
If you have additional questions feel free to contact me.
1
