On July 7,2016,the City's Hearing Examiner held that code violations existed at 1611 24th
Street. Violations included outdoor junk, garbage, debris and overgrown and dead vegetation, and ordered
that the vacant structures on site be maintained in a clean, safe, secure, and sanitary condition. The Examiner
also imposed a penalty of$2000. Snohomish County Superior Court entered a warrant of abatement
allowing the City to enter the Property to demolish the residential structure and remove and properly dispose
of all debris at the sole cost of the Owners. The violations were not abated in accordance with the Order and
pursuant to a warrant of abatement,the City abated the violations. The abatement costs and penalties were
not paid, and are now past due. This Resolution authorizes placement of an assessment lien on the property
on or after May 16, 2018,in the amount of the outstanding costs of abatement and the penalty imposed by the
Examiner,which totals $76,111.42.
RECOMMENDATION(Exact action requested of Council):
Adopt a Resolution authorizing recovery of abatement costs pursuant to EMC 1.20.090 at 1611 24th Street.
85
