The Downtown Everett Association recently completed the installation of eight pedestrian wayfinding signs at core intersections in
Downtown Everett. The signs include directional arrows to nearby City amenities and maps of Downtown Everett. We have also identified
additional locations for future signs as we expand the project.
This project has been a collaborative effort between the City and the Downtown Everett Association to promote economic development and
tourism. The City's economic development team worked with a local graphic design company to develop the initial signage concepts in
2013. The goal was to create a wayfinding system that would allow visitors to easily navigate Downtown and be aware of nearby destinations
and attractions.
The pedestrian wayfinding signs further build on city-led efforts to establish vehicular wayfinding directing visitors from 1-5 to major
Downtown attractions. The pedestrian wayfinding signs help visitors to Everett better recognize other opportunities for entertainment,
attractions and services in Downtown. These signs link attractions to amenities, encouraging visitors to extend the amount of time they spend
in Everett.Studies show that when visitors stay in a city for 6-8 hours or more, they are exponentially more likely to stay overnight.
In addition to helping visitors navigate Everett's urban center, the signs are intended to add to public streetscape and make Downtown more
visually interesting. They will help highlight downtown as a district and create a sense of identity for people living, working, and visiting the
area.
1.
