ORDINANCE NO. 77.,2-8/ AN ORDINANCE amending ordinance #26-69 that changes the name of South Broadway and Diag- onal Way to Southeast Everett Mall Way and Southwest Everett Mall Way from the inter- section at SR 526 to the intersection with Evergreen Way. WHEREAS, the largest traffic generator on this street is the Everett Mall, Everett Mall Center, and Everett Mall Village which will be generating more than 40, 000 trips per day; and WHEREAS , many of these trips originate from Interstate 5 and must travel through the Eastmont Interchange to reach the Mall retail services and other services being developed along this street; and WHEREAS, Southbound I-5 traffic can exit in Marysville , at Everett Avenue, at 41st Street and at SR 526 to reach Broadway or S Broadway; and WHEREAS , Northbound I-5 traffic can exit at Eastmont, 41st Street, and Pacific Avenue to reach Broadway or S Broadway; and WHEREAS , renaming the street is consistent with precedent of naming a street for the primary service attraction of the street; and WHEREAS , renaming the street would reduce confusion to motorists in finding their way to these services ; and • WHEREAS, the proponents will pay the estimated $70, 000 to change Freeway signs and $2000 to change City street name signs; and WHEREAS , the Transportation Advisory Committee has recom- mended changing the name to Everett Mall Way; and WHEREAS, the street passes the meridian line separating east and west addresses; and WHEREAS, an address designator is required by Chapter 13. 44 of the Everett Municipal Code and is needed to distinguish the difference between identical numerical addresses ; and WHEREAS, the Freeway signing would show "EVERETT MALL WAY" and not SE/SW Everett Mall Way; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT CITY COUNCIL DOES ORDAIN: That Section 1 and Section 2 of Ordinance No. 26-69 which reads : " Section 1 : That Section 8 of Ordinance No. 4072 is hereby amended to read hereafter as follows : ' Section 8. That the street in said City as recorded on the Plat of Intercity, Division No. 1 and the un- named street commonly called Broadway Cut-off , which lies between the South city limit line and the boun- dary line of Primary State Highway No. 1 limited access , and formerly called Diagonal Way, be called South Broadway. "Section 2 : That the City Engineer be and is hereby in- structed to note the change of name upon all city official plats and maps and the City Clerk is hereby directed and instructed to prepare and file a certified copy of this Ordinance in the Office of the County Auditor of Snohomish County, Washington with Plat of Intercity , Division No. 1 as the same is now on file and recorded in the office of the County Auditor.
