• <br /> 1I <br /> Proposed Ordinance Showing(Redlined)Revisions from Introduced Draft <br /> Section 2.2 of the Charter,which reads as follows: <br /> Sec.2.2.Eligibility to Hold Elective Office. <br /> No person shall be eligible to hold elective office unless he or she shall have <br /> been a registered voter and resident of the City for a period of at least one <br /> (1)year next preceding his or her election.Residence and voting within the <br /> limits of any territory which has been included in,annexed to,or <br /> consolidated with the City is construed to have been residence within the <br /> City.A Mayor or Council member shall hold within the City government no <br /> other public office or employment. <br /> Is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> Sec.2.2 Eligibility to Hold Elective Office. <br /> No person shall be eligible to hold elective office unless he or she shall <br /> have been a registered voter and resident of the City{,and,for Council <br /> positions elected from Council districts ,a resident <br /> of an applicable Council district,for a period of at least one(1)year next <br /> six(6)monthsxtlarceeding_prior tithe primary election date preceding `;--{Formatted:Strikethrough <br /> his or her primary election}..Council members must remain City lj Formatted:Underline <br /> residents while in office and must remain residents of any Council district l <br /> from which elected.However,if a Council member is elected to a Council Formatted:Underline <br /> district position for which he or she is qualified by residence at the time of <br /> election,and while remaining in that residence later does not qualify as a <br /> resident of the relevant district because a new districting plan including <br /> new district boundaries has been adopted during his or her term,that <br /> Council member shall remain eligible to serve in the same district position <br /> until the end of his or her term or until a successor is elected and qualified, <br /> whichever is later.Residence and voting within the limits of any territory <br /> which has been included in,annexed to,or consolidated with the City <br /> consolidated with a Council district through redistricting,is construed to <br /> have been residence within the City or Council district,respectively.A <br /> Mayor or Council member shall hold within the City government no other <br /> public office or employment. <br /> Nothing herein shall prevent a district Council member from seeking election <br /> to any at-large Council position prior to expiration of that member's current <br /> term.
