ARTICLE 16 - ACCUMULATED SICK LEAVE <br /> After the probation period of twelve (12) months, an employee shall be eligible to receive sick <br /> leave with pay, as herein provided, for the following reasons only: <br /> A. Personal illness or physical incapacity to such an extent as thereby to be rendered <br /> unable to perform the duties of his/her position, provided such illness or incapacity shall <br /> not be caused or brought on by dissipation or abuse of which the head of the <br /> Department shall be the judge subject to review by the Mayor, in consultation with the <br /> employee's physician and/or a physician representing the City. <br /> B. Enforced quarantine in accordance with certain health regulations. <br /> For LEOFF II members, the sick leave benefit shall be as follows: <br /> A probation period of twelve (12) months must be served and during that period of time a new <br /> hire may take sick leave for periods of no greater than three (3) consecutive shifts without loss <br /> of pay. <br /> Upon completion of probation, a new hire shall be credited with 294 hours of sick leave and <br /> further shall accrue six (6) hours per pay period beginning with the original date of employment. <br /> The maximum accrual of sick leave shall be 1,176 hours. <br /> 23 <br />
