Previously,
GeoDesign noted that BDZ/Northwest Construction removed—4 feet of unsuitable fill material down to firm and unyielding
soil and replaced it with structural fill material. GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray
silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could be probed less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may build up under
foundation areas be removed prior to the placement of concrete.
LOT 218:
Previously, GeoDesign noted 1 to.1.5 feet of loose material along the south perimeter foundation area and recommended
that it be removed down to firm and unyielding soil and replaced with structural fill material. Today, GeoDesign noted that
DDS had over-excavated the south perimeter foundation area down to a gray silty SAND with gravel which could be probed
less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. GeoDesign notified the contractor that the area was currently
suitable for the placement of backfill material. It is GeoDesign's understanding that the area will be backfilled with a clean
crushed rock material tomorrow.
LOT 219:
Previously, GeoDesign noted that foundation subgrade material within the north garage area could be be probed 8 to 12
inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe and recommended that the material be removed down to firm and unyielding
soil and backfilled with structural fill material. Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had over-excavated that foundation
subgrade area down to firm and unyielding soil and backfilled the area with a clean crushed rock material tamped into a firm
and unyielding mass.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade is currently suitable for support of the intended
structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may build up under foundation
areas be removed prior to the placement of concrete.
The client and contractor were notified of our observations and recommendations prior to our departure from the site today.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents.
