Previously,
GeoDesign noted that BDZ/Northwest Construction removed—8 feet of unsuitable fill material down to firm and unyielding
soil and replaced it with structural fill material (See Polygon-127-02 DFR 079 for density test results)for Lot 276,
GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could
be probed less than 1 inch using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may build up under
foundation areas be removed prior to the placement of concrete.
(LOT 2
vously, GeoDesign had observed the removal of 1 to 1.5 feet of unsuitable material from the south side of Lot 218,
Today, GeoDesign noted that the contractor had backfilled the over-excavated area with clean crushed railroad ballast
material tamped into a firm and unyielding mass.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may build up under
foundation areas be removed prior to the placement of concrete.
LOT 217:
Previously, GeoDesign noted that Northwest Construction/BDZ had removed—4-5 feet of unsuitable fill material down to
firm and unyielding soil and replaced it with structural fill material to near finished grade for Lot 217.Today, GeoDesign
noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 217. Craig with DDS had identified 4
inches to 1.5 feet of unsuitable soil (clearly loose saturated material)in the south half of the lot area which was removed
down to firm and unyielding soil. GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray-brown silty
SAND with gravel which could generally be probed less than 2 inches. GeoDesign notified the contractor that
over-excavated area was currently suitable for placement of backfill material.
The client and contractor were notified of our observations and recommendations prior to our departure from the site today.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents,Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report Is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By"section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095 ,
