Insulation shall be installed so that required <br />ventilation is unobstructed. For blown or poured loose fill insulation clearances <br />shall be maintained through installation of a permanent retainer. <br />Slab on erode <br />R-10 slab on grade insulation shall be installed inside the foundation wall and <br />shall extend down vertically 24' or to the top of the footing whichever is less <br />per WSEC section R402.2.9. <br />Wated P1=8 <br />Floor insulation shall be installed in a permanent manner in substantial <br />contact with the surface being insulated. Insulation supports shall be installed so <br />spacing is no more than twenty-four inches on center. <br />Floors separating conditioned space from unconditioned space shall have a <br />vapor barrier installed. Vapor barrier shall be installed on the warm side of the <br />insulation. The vapor barrier shall have a one perm dry cup rating or less (i.e. <br />four mil. polyethylene or kraft faced material) The floor sheathing may be used <br />as the vapor barrier if rated (and so stamped) at one perm (max.) Otherwise <br />place vapor barrier on top of joists before placing sheathing. <br />Exterior Wak <br />All wall insulation shall fill the entire cavity. Exterior wall cavities isolated <br />during framing shall be fully insulated to the levels of the surrounding walls. All <br />faced insulation shall be face stapled to avoid compression. <br />Walls separating conditioned space from unconditioned space shall have a <br />vapor barrier installed. Faced Batt insulation shall be face stapled. Vapor <br />barrier shall be installed on the warm side of the insulation. <br />Air Leakage <br />These air leakage notes apply to those locations separating outdoor <br />ambient conditions from interior spaces that are heated or mechanically cooled. <br />Exterior joints around windows and door frames, between wall cavities and <br />window or door frames, openings between walls and foundation, between walls <br />and roof and wall panels; openings at penetrations of utility services through <br />walls, floors and roof; and all other openings in the building envelope shall be <br />sealed, caulked, gasketed, or weatherstripped to limit air leakage in a manner <br />approved by the building official. <br />Dws <br />All exterior doors or doors serving as access to an enclosed unheated <br />area shall be weatherstripped to limit leakage around their perimeter when in a <br />closed position. <br />The thermal transfer characteristics of insulated doors shall be U-value 0.30 <br />or better per WSEC section R402.1.1. <br />Wndows: <br />Glazing U-values for windows and SGD shall be U-value 0.30 or better per <br />WSEC section R402.1.1 as indicated on the unit plans. <br />Windows shall be furnished with outdoor air inlets as indicated on the Unit <br />Electrical plans. Inlets shall have a controllable and secure opening and be <br />capable of a total opening area of not less than four (4) square inches and <br />tested by a nationally recognized standard or approved agency and located <br />to avoid drafts. Inlets shall be screened or otherwise protected from entry by <br />insects, leaves, or other material. <br />Roof/Ce&QX <br />Roof/Ceiling insulation: Open -Blown or poured loose fill insulation may be <br />used in attic spaces where the slope of the ceiling is more than 4 in 12 and <br />there is at least 44 inches of clear distance from the top of the bottom chord <br />of the truss or ceiling joist to the underside of the sheathing. When eave vents <br />are installed, baffling of the vent openings shall be provided so as to deflect <br />the incoming air above the surface of the insulation. Baffles shall be rigid <br />material, resistant to wind driven moisture. When feasible, the baffles shall be <br />installed from the top of the outside of the exterior wall, extending inward, to a <br />point six inches vertically above the height of noncompressed insulation, and <br />twelve inches vertically above loose fill insulation. Baffles shall be in place at <br />the time of framing inspection. <br />Where the ventilation space above the insulation is less than an average of <br />twelve inches roof ceiling assemblies shall be provided with a vapor barrier <br />having a 0.5 perm cup rating or less. Faced batt insulation where used as a <br />vapor barrier shall be face stapled. <br />Vapor barriers shall not be required in roof/ceiling assemblies where the <br />ventilation space above the insulation averages twelve inches or greater. <br />Vapor barriers shall be installed on the warm side of the insulation. <br />FlrepbM <br />Fireplaces shall be provided with each of the following: <br />a) Tightly fitting flue dampers, operated by a readily accessible manual or <br />approved automatic control. <br />b) An outside source for combustion air ducted into the firebox.
